Mother’s Complaint Leads to Son’s Imprisonment by Mobile Court for Drug Addiction

In Kalmakanda Upazila of Netrokona, a mother, unable to endure her drug-addicted son’s abuse, lodged a complaint with the upazila administration. Consequently, a mobile court sentenced the son to two months of imprisonment without labor and a fine of 100 taka. The verdict was delivered by Assistant Commissioner (Land) Mahmudul Hasan on Sunday evening.

The convicted youth, identified as Sajib Miya (30), is a resident of Agbogjan village in the upazila and the son of the late Akbar Miya.

According to the mobile court and local sources, Sajib Miya has been addicted to drugs for a long time. To fund his addiction, he frequently caused disturbances at home and physically assaulted his mother. Unable to tolerate her son’s abuse, his mother, Majeda Akter, submitted a written complaint to the upazila administration. On Sunday afternoon, a mobile court team visited Majeda Akter’s home and caught Sajib in the act of consuming drugs. He was then presented before the mobile court, where he admitted his guilt. The court sentenced him to two months of imprisonment without labor and a 100-taka fine under the Narcotics Control Act. He was subsequently sent to the district jail.
Assistant Commissioner (Land) Mahmudul Hasan said, “Following the mother’s complaint, we conducted an operation and detained Sajib Miya. He confessed to his crime in court, and he was punished in accordance with the law.”
