On Tuesday (July 22, 2025), around 4 a.m., when Habiba’s body reached her father’s home in Baot village, Motmura Union, Gangni Upazila, the cries and grief of her family and villagers filled the air with sorrow. Later, at 9 a.m., her body was laid to rest in her in-laws’ village, Sajipur, in Daulatpur Upazila, Kushtia, as confirmed by her husband, Zahurul Islam.
Ummey Habiba Rajni was the daughter of Abdul Hamid, a BNP leader from Motmura Union. She lived with her husband, Zahurul Islam, in a residence in Sector 4 of Uttara, Dhaka. Zahurul works at a private organization and also runs a tiles business.
Their only daughter, 12-year-old Jhumjhum Khatun, was a fifth-grade student at Milestone School and College. Recounting the incident, Zahurul Islam said, “After finishing the cooking, Habiba left around 1 p.m. on Monday to pick up our daughter from school. She said we’d eat together when she returned, as we do every day at noon. Yesterday, our daughter came back, but she didn’t.”
“While waiting to pick up our daughter, a training aircraft suddenly crashed, severely burning Habiba. She was rushed to the CMH Burn Unit in Dhaka, where she succumbed to her injuries during treatment. Now, our dining table feels like a place of mourning,” he added. Zahurul noted that their daughter Jhumjhum was seriously injured but, fortunately, survived and has received initial medical treatment.
Gangni Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge, Boni Israful, stated that the body of a student from Milestone School was brought to Gangni by ambulance following the plane crash in Diabari, Dhaka. Additional police were deployed to ensure the funeral prayer was conducted peacefully.
The incident occurred on Monday at around 1:18 p.m., when a Bangladesh Air Force F-7 BGI training aircraft crashed into a building at Milestone School and College. So far, 27 deaths have been confirmed, with over a hundred people injured.
