Youth Robbed at Dhanmondi, Robber Walks Past Police with Machete in Hand

 

A daring robbery took place in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi area near the Kalabagan bus stop shortly after midnight on Thursday (17 July). A robber, brandishing a machete, threatened a youth in public and snatched his bag before casually walking past traffic police without any interference. Despite the presence of onlookers, no one dared to intervene.

The incident was captured on a local CCTV camera, and the footage went viral on social media on Friday (18 July). In the video, the robber is seen holding a machete in his left hand, intimidating the victim with threatening gestures. After snatching the bag, the culprit calmly walks past three traffic police officers, crosses the road, and leaves the scene.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dhanmondi Police Station, Kyshainu Marma, told Jugantor on Friday, “We have identified the location of the incident after reviewing the video. It occurred near the Kalabagan bus stop. Although no victim has come forward to file a complaint yet, we have initiated an investigation on our own.” He added that CCTV footage from the area and its surroundings has been collected, and efforts are underway to identify the robber through analysis of the footage. The OC expressed optimism about apprehending the culprit soon.
